Facts About Warren County:
Warren County came into existence in 1825
when it was officially separated from Sussex County. The county
was named after Revolutionary War hero Dr. Joseph Warren.
The county seat is Belvidere - a Norman
Rockwell-esque town consisting of a small main street of cozy
shops situated on the Delaware and colonial and Victorian
homes.
Warren County includes 22 municipalities:
Phillipsburg, Pohatcong, Lopatcong, Oxford, Harmony, Blairstown,
Hope, White Township, Belvidere, Washington Boro, Washington
Township, Greenwich, Mansfield, Knowlton, Liberty, Independence,
Hardwick, Franklin, Alpha, Alamuchy, Hackettstown, and Frelinguysen.
The area was originally inhabited by the
Lenni Lenape Indians, hence the Native American influenced
names such as Lopatcong which is roughly translated from a
phrase that means "Winter water place for deer."
